These excellent local red wines are taking their name from the river that crosses this beautiful land strip and gives its name to the UNESCO-protected valley as well. The ones we offer you here are all made by very traditional family estates, hard working people that share one thing: the passion for what they are doing and the love for their homeland.

This Orcia Rosso 2005 DOC from the Pioggio al Vento estate is ruby red in color with violet reflexes. Its scent is quite intense and fruity, with hints of vanilla and oak wood, in which it was elevated. The bouquet is quite round, yet strong.

This Orcia Rosso 2006, from the Poggio al Vento estate as well, was created by the accurate selection of the Sangiovese grapes and a very careful fermentation. Its elevation in steel tanks for six month and the following refining in the bottle brings out a well balanced, very elegant bouquet.

The Guardiavigna 2004 Orcia Rosso from the winery “Podere Forte” is an assembly of Sangiovese and Cabernet grapes, aged for eighteen month in oak wood casks and a refining over six month at the estate cellar. It is rich in polyphenol, the substance, that is estimated to reduce the risk of cancer (if consumed responsibly). Its bouquet reminds one of wild berries and cherries before it finishes long on the palate.

„Il Primo“ takes ist name from the first sin, that’s why the apple. Made out of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet. Its perfume is complex and fruity. On the palate sensations of plums and cherries. Very persistent.
Every vintage is dedicated to an important person, the 2004 goes to the architect Mario Botta for having remodelled the Scala opera in Milan.

The “Curzio 2003” Orcia Rosso is produced with Sangiovese grapes, fermented in steel tanks and elevated in french barriques. A meditation wine, well structured, full and quite fruity.

The „Assoluto 2003“ is made out of Sangiovese and Colorino grapes, fermented in steel tanks and elevated then in French barriques. Its perfume reminds on of wild berries, vanilla and violets. Quite harmonic and soft on the palate, with slightly present tannins. A well-structured wine that goes along very well with roasted meat and fowl, but is a sensation to drink stand alone.
